Pharmacy The pharmacy strives to provide excellent service, drug utilization management, and drug information through its team of highly trained and dedicated staff. A Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) system is fully integrated with the Hospital Management Information System (HIMS), which allows physicians to send structured electronic requests to the pharmacy for in-patients. The department also has an electronic label printing for the out-patient department.
Opening hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Physiotherapy Department Physiotherapy is the assessment, treatment and prevention of injuries and other disorders by physical and mechanical means (such as massage, regulated exercise, water, light, heat, and electricity). It enables patients to function at their optimal physical level and often complements other therapies and treatments.
The Department works with patients to prevent disability, relieve pain, and to develop, improve or restore motor functions. Physiotherapists at the Nkinga Referral Hospital, practice the latest techniques in proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), ante-natal/post-natal exercises and sports medicine. The services are available for inpatients and outpatients.
Is one among of the Big Services at Nkinga Referral Hospital, The Department comprises of four departments and three units. The departments are; Nursing and Housekeeping, Social Welfare, Catering, and Central Sterilization. The units are; Laundry, and Hospital Quality Improvement unit.
Our major role is to ensure that nursing services and other support services are provided at an optimal standard. Currently, the Department is serving - admitted patients in various wards at Nkinga Referral Hospital with different health problems.
The Department has a total of nurses, out of which are registered nurses and enrolled nurses. In addition, there are 7 social workers and support staff.
UNITS UNDER NURSING SERVICES
1. Nursing and Housekeeping
The major responsibility of this department is to oversee the provision of quality nursing care services to the patients with more attention to seriously ill patients. Its major roles are:
To ensure the patients are met with human basic needs, getting treatments accordingly, prevention of complications and nosocomial infection. Provision of nursing care services is emphasized on following the Nursing process which includes assessment of the patients, establishing Nursing Diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation and nursing model.
2. Social Welfare
Its services are crosscutting. It deals with assisting patients with social problems which affects their health as well as pastor care because our hospital is a Faith organization. The major responsibilities are to do counseling, reconciliation, exemption, patient’s follow-up through home visiting and advice. There also responsible for repatriation of patients after treatment.
This Unit is responsible to prepare and handle food for an acceptable standard. The unit prepares food for patients admitted due to different health problems mainly from upcountry, food for intern’s doctors, doctors on call, and private patients (IPPM).
4. Central Sterilization
This Unit is responsible to prepare process and sterilize all equipment, instruments and supplies used for different procedures including operations at various service delivery points.
OTHER SUPPORT SERVICES
i. Laundry Unit
This unit is responsible to collect, process, wash and iron all linens and bed sheets used by the patients in the hospital. It also process theater towels and attire.
ii. Hospital Quality Improvement
The unit is responsible for overseeing the quality improvement programs and Infection prevention and control at the hospital. It is also responsible to receive complaints and feedback from clients regarding the services provided/offer.
